Is it a legal requirement for me to cover my inspection pit?

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 apply wherever there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury, which means they are relevant to work around maintenance pits and put extra responsibilities on employers overseeing this work. These responsibilities also apply to those who ‘control’ this work, such as facility managers and building owners who contract others.

What size pit cover do I need?

We have three sizes of the Pit Protect, the 1100, 1300 and 1500. They differ only in width as they all extend to 2m in length. Pit Protect 1100 has a width of 0.9m - 1.1m, Pit Protect 1300 has a width of 1.1m - 1.3m and Pit Protect 1500 has a width of 1.3m - 1.5m.

Once you've determined which width is better for your pit, you simply need to divide the length of your pit by 2 (meters). If you land on a half number, round up to ensure your whole pit will be covered.

What is the maximum working load of the Pit Protect?

The maximum working load of both the small and large pit covers is 150kg.

Can I drive on the Pit Protect?

No, the Pit Protect is designed as a working platform and fall protection system only.

I have vehicle jacks in my pit, can I still install Pit Protect?

Yes you can. By centralising the jack, the concertina design of the system - jack in middle, push mats either side then jack can move freely up and down the pit.

My inspection pit varies in width throughout – can I still use a Pit Protect?

The Pit Protect has been designed to accommodate several different widths thanks to its internal telescopic bars, this means even if your pit is uneven in width the pit cover can be adjusted throughout accordingly to fit perfectly.

Once it’s installed, can I take the system out again?

Yes, once installed you can remove it easily with no tools.
